Great catch Anupam! Bill is the rare combination of a Microsoft exec who is not only super smart and hard working but a great guy. High integrity and fun to tip back a beer with. Hard to beat that combo!

I could not agree with you more Andy. There are lots of different ways to promote and advertise products and online video advertising is a new one that offers many new benefits, like a way to leverage sight, sound and motion AND, to your second comment, offer a mechanism in the ad that offers something to the prospective buyer. In our case, we are seeing publishing partners offer packages that include offline newspaper, e.g., as well as online. Their advertisers can then insert call to action (offer) overlays. So ads can be more than just a way for advertisers to "yap about their product" and really drive interaction and benefit for both advertisers and customer. Thanks for your comments.

It would depend on what you want to achieve with the target audience after all what you want is to sell the product or idea right ? I especially like advertising that offers me something. Many TV, radio, magazine and newspaper ads that are out there are just yapping on about how their product is great.

There are different ways to promote your products/business. But they all come with different prices and benefits. The best way which i would suggest is to go with newspaper & magazine advertising.

The hard part is A/B testing to figure out what works.
Video is expensive and time consuming to shoot and to create an array of "testing videos" is out range for most SMEs, even large businesses will not invest in A/B for videos, yet.
There are so many variables such as the bandwidth that the consumer has, if there was net congestion, etc.
Then there is the correct "framing" of your videos with proper metadata and SEO techniques. Most people will attribute a failed video due to the video composition rather than failed/lazy metadata strategy.
Really, the game is a unified strategy, that leverages a traffic network strategy, combined with meta data / content "framing", tied with...... Oh, I get paid for this knowledge, doh!
For me at this point the key is to lock the door and learn all of the layers of the technology stack and creative development stack. Then and only then will you get a clear picture of how to address the layers of working components that will make a successful business model in this space.
We are now back from Ad Words that eliminated a lot of the "creativity" to a point were Creativity meets Direct Response meets SEO and deeper technical knowledge. This is a lot to ingest for the SME shop who just wants to have something more than a brochure-ware website, matching paper brochures and a bill from Google Ad Sense.
Now throw in mobile! Have a good one, invite me down to your shop for a coffee. It is hard to find deep knowldege new media brains. Cheers, Tim Reha - Seattle

The stats validate my experience as an owner of a local website (http://www.sunvalleyonline.com) that sells to SMBs. Once you demystify the process, the SMBs are very interested in getting their message out in a way that they haven't been able to in a 30 second tv/radio spot, a newspaper ad, etc. As long as the production costs can be kept reasonable, they are receptive.

Thanks for the comments Tim. I especially like your point about "Video is easier to consume than reading text and more powerful." As a starting point, video will take off for just that reason. But for video to be really successful, video marketing solutions have to get down to the understanding what makes one video execution more successful than another. Once businesses move past the inflection point of starting to use video for marketing, the big question will be figuring out how video drives action.

I would agree that we are now at the inflection point where businesses now will move towards video.
We saw the consumer market uptake short form YouTube videos in the past three years. I posted one business video as an experiment on YouTube -- A Tesla Motors Test Drive. Within three months we had over 10K views.
The video production HD workflows are now being streamlined. Comcast and other providers like Verizon Fios will finally get the fat pipes in place to stream videos.
H.264 is the new "standard" for compression and with the larger pipes, transcoding down to "web size" will be eliminated in the next 3-5 years.
People have three cortex's to the brain, thus their natural state is to conserve energy. Video is easier to consume than reading text and more powerful.
With "federated search" the need for video even becomes more apparent to remain competitive in search results...
Happy New Years! Tim Reha
